In-Cabin Pet Travel
United Airlines allows small cats and dogs to travel in the cabin on most flights. This option is convenient for pet owners who want to keep their pets close during the flight. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Eligibility:
Only cats and dogs are permitted for in-cabin travel.
Pets must be at least 16 weeks old for travel within the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and at least 15 weeks old for international travel.
2. Carrier Requirements:
Pets must be carried in an approved hard-sided or soft-sided kennel that fits under the seat in front of you.
The maximum dimensions for hard-sided kennels are 17.5 x 12 x 7.5 inches (44 x 30 x 19 cm).
The maximum dimensions for soft-sided kennels are 18 x 11 x 11 inches (46 x 28 x 28 cm).
The pet must remain in the carrier, with the door secured, at all times while in the airport and onboard the aircraft.
3. Fees:
A one-way fee of $125 applies for carrying a pet in the cabin.
An additional $125 service charge applies for travel segments with more than a 4-hour stopover within the U.S. or more than a 24-hour stopover outside of the U.S.
